Rick Ross Brings 'A Game' To Mariah's Remix |
Mariah Carey may normally command the spotlight, but the Grammy Award winning songstress has made room for Miami-based rapper Rick Ross on the remix to her hit single "Touch My Body." The song, which finds Carey utilizing an almost rap-like flow, also features fellow R&B singer The Dream. "Whenever an artist of Mariah's caliber is involved you gotta bring you’re A game,"

Rick Ross told. "'Touch My Body' is a big record and I just had to add that street flavor…that Maybach music." Ross is the latest MC to work with Carey. The songbird has aligned with numerous rappers over the years, including Jay-Z, Da Brat, Busta Rhymes, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Mobb Deep, Bow Wow and Snoop Dogg. "Touch My Body" is the lead single off Carey’s forthcoming album E=MC2, which is due in stores April 15.

Afrika Bambaataa Bringing Zulu Beatz To XM |
Universal Zulu Nation founder Afrika Bambaataa will take rap fans on musical journey through Hip-Hop history with his new XM Satellite radio show Zulu Beatz. The show, which is scheduled to premiere at 10 p.m. April 5 on XM Radio’s The Rhyme-XL Channel 65, will feature Bambaataa as the host, along with co-hosts The Cutman LG and Mickey Bentson aka Mick Benzo. The trio will play a variety of Hip-Hop classics that cover the evolution of the culture and its music. “Zulu Beatz is true school for the people,” Afrika Bambaataa told. “If you are tired of hearing the same 10 songs over and over again, then this is the show you don't want to miss." An encore of the first Zulu Beatz broadcast will air at noon on April 9. In addition to founding the legendary Zulu Nation, Bambaataa is noted for being one of the co-founders of Hip-Hop culture. A veteran in the music industry, Bentson has handled the careers of rap veterans Ice-T and Melle Mel as a manager in addition to working with numerous other entertainers. The Cutman LG is known as a DJ and one of the producers featured on Positive K’s classic 1992 album The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills. The addition of Bambaataa, Bentson and Cutman LG comes as the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) ended its investigation into the pending merger of Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio without taking action to block the union.
Battle Over Ol' Dirty's Estate Continues |
Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s mother Cherry Jones will appear in Brooklyn Surrogate Court on April 1 in the ongoing battle over the rapper’s estate. Ol’ Dirty’s mother will challenge the role of Dirty’s widow Icelene Jones as administrator of his estate, once again claiming that Icelene is misusing funds the deceased rapper’s estate earns.

The battle over Ol’ Dirty’s estate ensued immediately after the rapper, born Russell Jones, died of a drug induced heart attack at Wu-Tang’s 36 Records recording studio on November 13, 2004. Two other women with children by Ol’ Dirty Bastard have also accused Icelene of mismanaging hundreds of thousands of dollars since Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s death.

Rocko: Self-Made |
Rocko is no newcomer to the industry. He started Rocky Road Records back in 2002 and recently put out two mixtapes with the most recent being 2007’s Swag Season. This mixtape helped make himself more familiar as a rapper in and around Atlanta. He’s now brought his swag to the frontlines with his first studio album Self-Made (Island Def Jam). Many of the tracks are typical bass heavy beats which can easily be enjoyed in your vehicle; however the lyrics are very questionable. The first single off the album which is probably one of the better songs is “Umma Do Me.” The track is very catchy and the horn blaring beat easily helped it become a hit in the club circuit. Yet with lyrics like “I talk to the car and the car talk back / Then I step up out the car and the car back back,” it makes you feel as though you’ve fallen victim to listening to another rapper boast about how fresh his car, clothes, women and jewelry are.
